Cameroon Project

Cameroon Project

During the Cameroonian Civil war many children have been made orphans. Without suitable guidance and support these children are likely to do whatever it takes to survive and possibly drift into a life of crime and poverty. Angela Forzi (an orphan herself) has worked tirelessly with the Children in her local area. Taking them into her home to shelter, feed, clothe, educate and inspire these homeless orphaned children to become valuable members of the community.

MMAS works in collaboration with The Albert – Lucy Common Initiative Group (the organisation that Angela has setup). We have collected donations of clothing, non-perishable foodstuffs, Kitchen Utensils and Educational Supplies, these were shipped to the Cameroon at the end of July 2020.

We raised funds:

    • for a Cooker to replace the firewood based open cooking area
    • to help the Orphanage purchase chickens so that they can create a free-range poultry farm and become self-sufficient.

As a result of this, the Orphanage is able to support more children and improve the local community by reducing homelessness, crime and poverty.

Patrick’s Story

Patrick's Story

Patrick has been diagnosed as being on the Autistic Spectrum. During his formative years, Patrick attended specialist educational centres. During the majority of his adulthood (27 years) Patrick has been working as a kitchen assistant at a famous fast food establishment.

Due to his learning difficulties he has not been encouraged to develop his career, ideas or pursue other interests. This has resulted in him feeling very discouraged, displaying signs of a lack of motivation and self-esteem.

He was referred to MMAS FOUNDATION in August 2019 for support to help him develop his skills and support him to source new employment.

    • He is currently volunteering as an assistant coordinator for a learning disability life skills group
    • He is being supported to develop his ideas and IT Skills via 1 on 1 weekly sessions
    • His goal is now to become a personal assistant running his own IT related business

Help us to help other people like Patrick to develop their skills toward becoming useful and independent members of the community.

Joseph’s Story

Joseph’s Story

When Joseph initially came to us, he was a very private, uncommunicative child. He disliked participating in group activities, and also had a tendency to be disruptive when he did.

With support from MMAS Joseph was able to participate in a series of weekly coaching sessions. During these sessions he was supported in developing and refining his football technique.

As a consequence of this guided and structured process, his confidence and communicative skills grew significantly. His social interaction with his team mates excelled, enabling him to fully commit to developing his natural talent, and be subsequently selected to play for a local football club in a defense position.

The supported coaching sessions are player centered and revolve around their technical skills using game-based scenarios.
The emphasis is on enjoyment, social skills and personal development.

Errick’s Story

Errick's Story

Errick was a PGCE Student at Canterbury University, when through his teacher training program network, he heard that there was an opportunity to help support a group of disadvantaged young people in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Errick understood that the need to support those children was great, so even though he was without the full financial means to cover his expenses there, he approached MMAS Foundation to sponsor him and make up the shortfall.

With the superb sponsorship of MMAS Foundation, Errick was able to support 150 young people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to improve their reading and writing skills.

I fundamentally believe that education can be used as a tool to develop self-confidence, resilience and personal-growth. I am grateful to MMAS Foundation for helping me promote those virtues in the young people I taught in St Vincent and the Grenadines and its sponsorship.
